The Breath Should Allow the Voice to be FREE…not the opposite

Don’t breathe as if you are stuck in a straitjacket! A phrase I like to use quite often when I see students struggling to get underneath their breath on a difficult phrase. The process of being stuck in this awkward position arises when the shoulders start to rise and the neck muscles are constricted. The diaphragm lifts and we have less space in our chest cavity to keep our lungs filled with air. We lose support and create tension when we are not achieving an engaged, lower diaphragmatic position.
ALWAYS think deep breaths and keep the voice suspended in this lower position!! 🎤 🎤 🎤
